Thousand Oaks Pool Fencing Guidelines

Where to look for residential pool fencing laws in Thousand Oaks

You can find Thousand Oaks pool barrier requirements on the city website. They are easily downloaded and printed out. Note that the subhead under the title includes both swimming pools and spas.

How high does the pool enclosure have to be?

A swimming pool enclosure in Thousand Oaks has to be at least five feet (sixty inches) in height. Although the city rules do not specify, this measurement is usually made on the side of the fence facing away from the pool, so plan for that.

What about ground clearance?

The bottom of the fence is allowed a maximum of two inches of clearance between the ground and the fence. As with pool height, this is measured on the side facing away from the pool. Any gaps or voids in the construction of the fence must not exceed four inches.

What about gates in the fence?

All gates must swing away from the pool. They must also be fitted with a self-activating latch that is at least 60 inches above the ground.

What about safety covers?

You must have an approved safety cover.

Is there anything else I need to know about Pool safety fences in Thousand Oaks?

If any of the exterior walls of the residence serve as part of the pool enclosure, all doors (including sliding glass doors) must be equipped with self-closing, self-latching doors and exit alarms. This also applies to garage doors if they allow access to the pool or spa.
